Welcome to our old-fashioned neighborhood store. As you can see from the calendar picture on the Home page, I've been around 'almost' as long as the store!

This authentic neighborhood grocery store -- reminiscent of the 1930s and 40s -- was the last of its breed in this central Iowa town of about 30,000 persons. In a building more than 160 years old, my family began business in 1939. The doors were open six days each week for almost 65 years! When the store opened, the two telephone numbers were "0" and "1" ... and during its heyday the store boasted a full-service meat department, fresh fruits and vegetables, canned goods, locally-produced milk, eggs and bakery products. Orders were delivered to customers' homes several times daily throughout the city. Charge accounts were active -- and paid weekly! Late hours on Saturday evenings allowed farm families to do their shopping.

Before it closed in 2003, you'd still find everything you needed in bread, rolls, doughnuts, milk, sodas, beer, snacks, frozen and canned foods and cold meats. There was always a variety of five-cent candy and gum on the counter. Pet foods, cleaning supplies and other necessities were offered for sale.

And, of special interest to many visitors then was the store's large selection of Antiques, Collectables and Useful Household items. Many items remained from early in the store's history. Others were purchased from the estates of the store's long-time neighbors and friends. Merchandise was added regularly, including advertising, local memorabilia, old tools/hardware, books, magazines, primitives, toys and dolls, jewelry, paper memorabilia, old store fixtures, wood boxes/crates, linens/bedding, coins/coin sets, pictures/frames, marbles, light fixtures/globes, radios, lamps/lamp parts, glassware/china, silverware, bottles, fruit jars, old photos, cameras, postcards, repair/replacement items, house plants, gifts and much, much more!

We have brought the best of those things online ... the advertising, tools and hardware, collector cards, old store fixtures, wood boxes and crates, coins, pictures and frames, marbles, light fixtures, silverware, fruit jars, bottles and more.

We've met many of you through our auctions on eBay in recent years! We've sold a little bit of everything ... from books to baby clothes and doorknobs to vintage linens. Most of you, judging by our feedback, have been happy with your purchases. Take a look at the 'Mayersmarket' Feedback of more than 3,000!

And now, there's more ...
We've collected all sorts of books and other paper goods for many years and have been sharing them with our customers since the 1970s ... since 1992 online. We still promise to be as diligent in describing them as if you were here to see and touch them yourself. We try to price fairly. And we carefully deliver, just like in the old days (but with a little modern help from the USPS!) So, step in our new old store ... and don't forget to take a close look at the tin ceiling and wood floors!

Thanks for visiting!
